No matter where you are people of all ages can suffer heart failure. From choking to cardiac arrest, the situation is life-threatening and requires swift, effective response. Knowing what to do can save a life. St. John Ambulance can give you the skills you need. Here is an outline of the levels of CPR and AED training available.

CPR Level A + AED

Learn to be a lifesaver! This program is suitable for anyone interested in learning or refreshing their knowledge of adult CPR techniques. Students will learn to activate Emergency Medical Services, provide assistance to an adult whose heart has stopped or who is choking, and learn to recognize signs and symptoms of a stroke. Additionally, this course will teach students the use of an automated external defibrillation (AED). CPR (Level A) certificates are issued upon successful completion. A renewal course is available. The renewal course is designed to review knowledge and skills learned in the full course.

CPR Level A + AED (Renewal)

This renewal course is designed to review knowledge and skills learned in the full course (highlighted above).

CPR Level C + AED

This course provides comprehensive CPR training for general public interest or workplace requirements. Students will learn CPR techniques for adults, infants, and children and are taught using appropriately sized manikins for individual practice. Additional topics include Emergency Scene Management, recognition of cardiac arrest and stroke, choking, and automated external defibrillation (AED). Each student will receive a St. John Ambulance First Aid Reference Guide with over 400 pages of information and full-colour illustrations. A renewal course is available. The renewal course is designed to review knowledge and skills learned in the full course. Annual retraining in CPR is recommended.

CPR Level C + AED (Renewal)

This renewal course is designed to review knowledge and skills learned in the full course (highlighted above).

CPR Level HCP (Health Care Provider)

CPR for Health Care Providers (HCP) is specifically designed for the current and future Nursing, Health and Emergency Care Service Providers. Topics covered include cardiovascular and respiratory emergencies, adult, child and infant CPR skills, two-rescuer CPR, automated external defibrillation (AED), use of the bag valve mask, rescue breathing and jaw thrust, anatomy and physiology, and infection control. Each student will receive a St. John Ambulance First Aid Reference Guide with over 400 pages of information, full colour illustrations, charts, glossary, and more. This course is a recognized prerequisite for post-secondary health and emergency service training programs. Provincially recognized certificates are issued upon completion. Annual retraining in CPR is recommended.
