To Our Valued Students

With the announcement from the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development as of June 19, 2020 providers of Health & Safety training may resume in-class training. St. John Ambulance has been working diligently over the last few months in preparation for reopening, and our classrooms across Ontario will do so in a safe and orderly manner. We will be opening the Niagara Falls training centre and classrooms June 24, 2020.

In order to allow for physical distancing, we will be reducing our class capacity.

How We Are Reopening

We will be following the guidelines of health and safety authorities to keep our clients and staff safe. – All students are required to bring face mask or facial covering. For those who do not bring a mask, one will be offered at a nominal cost.

  • Wash/sanitize your hands throughout the day. Sanitizer will be available at all training facilities.
  • If you are not feeling well, please stay at home. If you are unable to attend for this reason, you will be rescheduled for a future class at no cost or penalty.
  • Students will be sitting apart from other participants using appropriate social distancing guidelines. To ensure employees and students maintain distance, we will be placing decals/tape on the floor to direct traffic flow and limit the number of students in a classroom at a time. – Individual students will be assigned workstations with the required supplies that will not be shared with other students during the class.
  • Hands-on activities have been modified to help further reduce risk.

In addition, our employees are taking the following precautions:

  •  Employees will sanitize and disinfect shared surfaces and training equipment.
  • All desks and chairs will be sanitized before each class, with commercially available disinfectants. Frequently touched surfaces will be disinfected throughout the day.
  • All doors where possible, will be propped open to avoid excess contact with door handles

Pet First Aid

This is a program that provides life-saving knowledge and training for pet owners. This six-hour course encourages safe management of emergency circumstances and prepares rescuers to respond to life-threatening situations involving their domestic animals.

Joint Health and Safety Committee

The Occupational Health and Safety Act requires any employer with more than twenty regular employees to establish and maintain a health and safety program that includes a Joint Health and Safety Committee.

In 2019, St John Ambulance launched Joint Health & Safety Committee Certification Training in Ontario. As a recognized leader in first aid training across Canada, this training is the perfect complement to our commitment to health and safety overall.
